'KEENE, N.H. 4/7/04 - Junior pitcher Jim Slack (Manchester, NH)
notched his second win of the season and Jeremy Schilling
(Centerville, MA) collected three RBIs to lead the Keene State
College baseball team to a 10-4 Little East Conference victory over
Plymouth State University at Owl Athletic Complex on
Wednesday.
It was the home season opener and first LEC victory of the year
for the Owls. KSC improves to 6-6, while the Panthers fall to
1-14.
The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI
single from Tim Kendrick (Middletown, R.I.). KSC added five
more runs in the third inning that included an RBI single from Mike
Masseur (Warwick, R.I.). Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon,
N.H.), who later had an RBI hit, scored on an error by the PSU
shortstop, and Schilling hit a three run double. Matt Beam
(Alstead, N.H.) doubled to center field in the fourth and brought
home two more runs.
Slack improved to 2-0, hurling six innings with nine
strikeouts. The junior pitcher gave up two runs, seven hits,
and five walks to notch the win.
Nick Libera (Cromwell, Conn.) had two hits and two RBIs to lead
the Panthers. Scott Begalle (Rumney, N.H.) went
two-for-four with an RBI double to right field in the fifth inning,
and Vinny Smith (Alvord, IA) had one hit and an RBI for PSU.
Josh Forest (0-4), the Panther's starter, gave up one run on two
hits in his two innings on the mound. He took the loss
for Plymouth.
The Owls will travel to New England College for a single game on
Thursday (4 p.m.).
