KEENE, N.H. 9/15/04 - Keene State broke open a close game with
six unanswered goals in the second half on the way to a 7-0 victory
over Mass. College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference men's soccer
game play Wednesday in Keene.
Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.) and Casey Banks (Westborough,
Mass.) had two goals each to lead the Owl attack. Eric Scott (West
Springfield, Mass.) added a goal and an assist.
Junior Mark Ambrose (Londonderry, N.H.) gave KSC a 1-0 lead with
his first college goal. He headed in a crossing pass from Joey
Amaio (Wethersfield, Conn.) at the 21:13 mark.
Mass College had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds
of the half, but the ball went into the net after time expired.
Lombardo scored two goals 1:25 a part early in the second half
to extend Keene State's lead to 3-0. Lombardo now has four goals
this season. Minutes later, Scott netted his fourth of the year.
Banks added two more goals and Derrick Amaio (Wethersfield, Conn.)
wrapped up the scoring barrage with a goals later in the closing
minutes.
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) and Matt Caron (Amston, Conn.)
each made a save, and Cal Mintz Westport, Conn.) played the final
five minutes to share the shutout for KSC (4-1). Zach Natale
(Florence, Mass.) had seven saves, Mike Dennis (Templeton, Mass.)
stopped three shots, and Mike Giovine (Lee, Mass) made one save for
the Trailblazers (2-3).
KSC hosts UMass-Boston in its first LEC game of the season on
Saturday (1 p.m.).
