KEENE, N.H. 9/15/04 - The Keene State College women's soccer
team netted four first half goals on the way to posting a
home-opening 7-0 shutout victory over Westfield State College on
Wednesday.
Seven different players scored for the Owls (3-2), who have won
the last nine meetings between the two teams. Westfield (2-2) saw
its two game winning streak come to an end.
The Owls didn't waste anytime getting on the scoreboard.
Following a throw in from the left side, Junior Brittany Faulkner
(Lebanon, N.H.) corralled a loose ball fired it into the top corner
of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 1:35 mark.
KSC extended its lead when Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.)
finished off a crossing pass from Courtney Gately (Canton, Mass.).
Wagner and Molly Blanchette (Canterbury, N.H.) added goals to give
KSC a commanding 4-0 halftime lead.
Beanne Lucey (Keene, N.H.), who got her third of the season,
Katie Bedigian (Northboro, Mass.), and Sarah Campbell (Auburn,
Mass.), KSC's back-up goalie, scored second half goals.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) had two saves to notch her
second shutout of the season. Natalia Araszkiewicz (Framingham,
Mass.), who made several outstanding stops, finished with eight
saves for Westfield State.
KSC opens its LEC schedule at UMass-Boston on Saturday (1 p.m.).
