WESTFIELD, MASS. 9/22/04 - Keene State College and Westfield
State College battled to a scoreless double overtime tie in a
non-conference men's soccer game played Wednesday night in
Westfield, Mass.
"They played a defensive game, packed play the box and didn't
give us much space to operate," said Keene State Coach Ron Butcher.
The Owls (4-1-1) had a difficult time in the first half
adjusting to the WSC turf field. Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.),
who finished with four saves, made his best stop in the second
half.
KSC's best opportunity to score came with 38 seconds to play in
the second overtime when Mark Ambrose (Londonderry, N.H.)
point-blank drive was stopped by Matt Costa (Chicopee, Mass.).
Costa finished the game with six saves for Westfield (2-2-1).
Keene State, which entered the game ranked 25th nationally and
fourth in the region, had won the previous six meetings between the
two teams.
The Owls will be at Western Conn. on Saturday (noon) for its
first Little East game of the season.
