DANBURY, CT - Despite playing a man down after just eight
minutes of action on Saturday afternoon, Keene State College held
on to defeat Western Connecticut State University, 3-1 at Westside
Athletic Complex.
Casey Banks (Barrington, NH) scored two goals on the afternoon
including the game's first score in the 26th minute after Mark
Ambrose (Londonderry, NH) chipped a pass back into the box from the
end line to lead the Owls.
Banks netted an insurance goal in the 81st minute. He also had an
assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal scored by Jason
Lombardo (Woburn, MA) in the 58th minute.
WestConn, now 2-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the league, cut its
deficit to 2-1 when former Keene State player Matt Cusack (New
Milford, CT) scored his team-leading second goal of the season with
10:23 remaining in the game.
The Owls, 5-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference,
had to play without Joe Amaio (Wethersfield, CT) after he earned
his second yellow card in the eighth minute of play. His first came
after a hard tackle on Cusack in the midfield with just 10 seconds
elapsed in the game.
Brandon Beck (Johnstown, NY) earned the victory in goal for the
Owls after making seven saves.Paul Melitsanopoulos (Norwalk, CT)
made three saves for the Colonials.
KSC host nationally ranked Williams College on Wednesday (5
p.m.).
