KEENE, N.H. 9/29/04 - Courtney Gately (Canton, Mass.) scored
with 6:11 to play to lift Keene State College to a 1-0 victory over
Clark University in a non-conference women's soccer game played
Wednesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.
After missing numerous scoring chances, the Owls finally were
able to get the ball past Cougar goalie Rebecca Dezan (Kendall
Park, N.J.) who finished with 11 saves. Standing on the right side
of the net, Gately corralled a loose ball and slid it into the
short corner of the net for the game winner. It was the first goal
of the season for the sophomore.
Both teams had good scoring opportunities in a scoreless first
half. Katie Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.) bid was denied by Cougar
goalie Rebecca Dezan (Kendall Park, N.J.) and Clark's Liz Adamcik
(Florence, Mass.) shot from inside the box just missing the far
post with 6:15 to play. Keene State couldn't cash on several
scoring chances in the second half. Tara Wagner (Avon, Conn.) had
two of her shots tipped over the cross bar by Dezan.
Michelle Mason (Fairport, N.Y.) didn't record a save on the way
to posting her third shutout of the season. KSC outshot the Cougars
21-2.
Clark, which entered the game ranked eighth in the region, falls
to 5-3. Keene State improves to 5-3.
