KEENE, N.H. 9/4/04 - The Keene State College men's soccer team
erupted for six unanswered second half goals on the way to posting
an opening season 7-0 shutout victory over Lasell College in the
second game of the Diadora-Dunkin' Donuts Soccer Showdown in Keene
on Saturday.
Casey Banks (Westborough, Mass.) gave Keene State a 1-0 halftime
lead when he headed in a crossing pass from Joey Amaio
(Wethersfield, Conn.) at the 19:12 mark. Nick Trottier (White River
Jct., Vt.) had a chance to add to the Owls' lead, but Lasell goalie
Greg Lillibridge (Clinton, N.Y.) reached back and pulled the ball
back to keep it a one goal game at the break.
KSC however exploded for five unanswered goals in the second
half to pull away from the Lasers. Trottier made amends by
finishing off a picture-perfect play from Amaio and freshman Ralph
Rocco (Groton, Mass.) and 1:11 later Eric Scott (West Springfield,
Mass.) fired in a shot over the fingertips of Lillibridge to make
it 3-0. Amaio, Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.), Brian Crook
(Wareham, Mass.), and Derrick Amaio (Wethersfield, Conn.) added
their first goals of the season later in the half to make it 7-0.
KSC goalies Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) and Matt Caron
(Amston, Conn.) didn't record a save in the shutout victory.
Lillibridge had six saves and Nathan Walzer (Woodbury, Conn.) saw
action in goal for the Lasers (0-1). Keene State (1-0), which lost
to Roger Williams in last year's ECAC final, will attempt to avenge
that loss when it faces the Hawks at 2:30 p.m. Albertus Magnus will
face Lasell in Sunday's earlier Showdown game at noon.

Conn.) had two goals to lead the Roger Williams University men's

in the first game of the 3rd Annual Diadora-Dunkin' Donuts Soccer

shot alluded Falcon goalie Mike Perreira (Bakersfield, CA) to make
it 1-0. Later in the half, Rich Reddington (Naugatuck, Conn.)
scored on a shot from just inside the box, and Nate Boucher
completed the scoring when he headed in Evan Solis's (Seymour,
Conn.) corner kick with seven seconds left in the half. Mike Gilman
(West Haven) had a chance to put AM on the board, but his penalty
kick shot banged off the crossbar early in the second half.

Pa.) netted second half goals for the Hawks.
