'PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Breanne Lucey (Keene, N.H.) scored one
goal and assisted on two others Saturday afternoon to lead Keene
State College to a 3-1 victory over Plymouth State University in a
Little East Conference women's soccer match at Panther Field.
The Owls, defending LEC champions, overcame an early deficit to
pull out the win, improving to 6-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in
conference play, while the hosts dropped their third straight to
fall to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the LEC.
The Panthers came out strong and put one on the board in the
first three minutes. Junior Allison Frobey (Sandy Hook,
Conn.) tossed a long throw-in into the box, and junior Kelsey
McBride (Brookline, N.H.) finished off the play to give the
Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Lucey evened the match six minutes later when she picked up a
loose ball in her own territory and went 50 yards on a breakaway
before sliding the ball past the PSU keeper. The Owls nearly
took the lead with 17:00 on the first-half clock but a blast from
outside the box by senior Sarah Miller (Walpole, N.H.) rattled off
the goalpost. Lucey set up sophomore Renee Halsey
(Francestown, N.H.) for a goal with 11 minutes to play to put the
Owls up 2-1 at the half.
Both teams had opportunities in the second half but could not
convert. KSC sealed the game with 30 seconds remaining when
PSU senior keeper Hayley Quinones (Waitsfield, Vt.) couldn't
control a shot by Lucey and sophomore Alyson Beadle (East Hartford,
Conn.) knocked in the rebound.
Senior Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) collected the win in goal
for the Owls with a six-save effort. Quinones finished with
four saves for PSU.Keene State had a slim 15-12 advantage in shots.
Both teams return to action Wednesday with non-conference
affairs, as Plymouth State is home again hosting Salem State (4:00
p.m.) and Keene State travels to Worcester State (4:00 p.m.)
