'KEENE, N.H. 10/11/05 - The Keene State College women's soccer
team dropped a 1-0 non-conference game to Williams College Tuesday
afternoon at Sumner Joyce Field.
KSC moved the game to Sumner Joyce Field due to the flood
conditions at Owl Athletic Complex.
Gabrielle Woodson's goal with four minutes to play was the
difference. Woodson took advantage of a misplay in the Owls'
backfield and put the ball into an open net for the game winner.
The Owls had a couple of strong opportunities to score in the
game. In the first half, Missy Mengual (East Berlin, Conn.)
had a header off a corner kick and Renee Halsey's (Francestown,
N.H.) bid in the early second half was saved.
KSC goalie Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) had a solid game in
goal with a season-high 14 saves. Her best save of the game
came in the second half when she made a diving save on a shot by
Ana Sani.
Clara Hard had six saves for Williams (9-1) ranked 14th
nationally and second in New England.
"The storm made us want to win even more," said Breanne Lucey, a
Keene native. "We wanted to exert our sadness into our game.
Playing on a different field had no affect, it all comes down to
can you communicate with your teammates and make something happen."
The Owls (6-3-3) are scheduled to host R.I. College in a Little
East game on Saturday. (1 p.m.)
