'WILLIMANTIC, CONN. 10/20/05 - Freshman Alex Horne's (Harvard,
Mass.) second goal of the game in double-overtime lifted Keene
State College to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Connecticut State
University in a Little East Conference men's soccer game played
Thursday afternoon in Willimantic Conn.
Sophomore midfielder Ralph Rocco (Groton, Mass.) fought off
three players to gain control of the ball and send Horne in on a
break-away for the game-winner at the 101:48 mark. It was the ninth
goal of the season for Horne.
KSC took a 1-0 lead at the 21:45 minute mark of the first half
when Horne finished off a feed from Eric Scott (West Springfield,
Mass.).
ECSU tied the game midway in the second half when Elvis Perndoj
put in a crossing ball from Nick Rezendes (Newington, Conn.). It
was the first LEC goal given up by the Owls this season.
KSC Coach Ron Butcher juggled his line-up for the game moving
defender Kyle Wood (Manchester, Conn.) to midfield, putting Mike
Cooley (Northborough, Mass.) on the outside, and moving Scott up to
striker. "We struggled initially," said Butcher. "But we came
together and managed to generate some offense."
Cal Mintz (Westport, Conn.) (three saves) and Matt Caron
(Amston, Conn.) (0 saves) saw action in goal for KSC (10-2-2, 4-0
