'KEENE, N.H. 10/20/05 - Eliana Handschu(Madera, CA.) goal at the
35:23 mark of the first half was the difference in Eastern
Connecticut's 1-0 shutout victory over Keene State College in
Little East Conference women's soccer action at Sumner Joyce Field
on Thursday.
Eastern Conn. improves to 7-5-2 (4-0-1 LEC) while KSC falls to
6-5-3 (1-2-1 LEC).
Zielinsk's goal, her first of the season, came when she fired a
loose ball past KSC goalie Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) that
found the short side of the net.
KSC's best opportunity to get the equalizer came 13 minutes into
the second half. With ECSU goalie Allison Sumecki
(Northfield, Conn.) out of position, Renee Halsey's (Francestown,
N.H.) bid was knocked away by Warrior defender Melissa Lambert
(Montville, Conn.).
Campbell had four saves for the Owls while Sumecki finished with
five saves to notch her third shutout of the season for ECSU.
KSC defeated Eastern Conn. (3-0) in last year's LEC championship
game.
The Owls travel to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday for a 3:30 LEC
game.
