'KEENE, N.H. 10/29/05 - The Keene State College women's soccer
team completed its regular season with a 3-1 Little East Conference
victory over UMass-Boston at Sumner Joyce Field on Saturday.
With the victory, Keene State (9-5-3, 4-2-1 LEC) secures home
field for a first round game of the Little East Tournament at
Sumner Joyce Field on Tuesday (2:30 p.m.). With
Southern Maine and R.I. College losing on Saturday, KSC will be the
third seed in the tournament. UMass-Boston, coached by former Owl
All-American Amy Zombeck, concludes its season with a 3-11-2 (0-7)
record.
Three different players netted goals for the Owls. Breanne
Lucey (Keene, N.H.) and Amy St. John (Barre, Vt.) scored
first half goals three minutes apart for KSC. Katie Stevens
(Londonderry, N.H.) made it 3-0 early in the second half. It
was the sixth goal of the season for both Lucey and Stevens and the
first college goal for St. John.
Andrea Maillett (Reading, Mass.) spoiled KSC's shutout bid with
a goal at the 60:04 mark.
KSC Coach Denise Lyons used all three of her goalies in the
game; senior Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) 0 saves), and freshmen
Kaitlin O'Malley (Watertown, Mass.) (1 save) and Samantha Hirsh
(Holliston, Mass.) (0 saves).
Denise Ridge (Milton, Mass.) finished the game with 16 saves for
the Beacons.
Prior to the game, KSC honored seniors Brittany Faulkner
(Lebanon, N.H.), Missy Mengual (Berlin, Conn.), captains Katie
Bedigian (Northboro, Mass.) and Sarah Miller (Walpole, Mass.) and
Campbell.
