'Worcester, MA- Keene State College and Worcester State
College played to a 1-1double-overtime draw in a
rematch of the Owls' 1st round NCAA Tournament game last season on
the turf of Coughlin Field on the campus of Worcester State College
Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through halftime with
both teams carrying play for periods of time.
Worcester State got on the board first in the 51st minute when
freshman Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth, MA) knocked in her own rebound
to give Worcester State the, 1-0 advantage. Keene State
answered back 10 minutes later when junior Katie Stevens
(Londonderry, NH) took a pass from freshman Kathleen Keniston
(Minneapolis, MN) to score the equalizer. Keniston carried
the ball down the win and fed Stevens with a cross for the tying
goal.
Both teams engineered scoring opportunities through the rest of
regulation and both overtimes but neither squad was able to convert
the game-winner.
Worcester State goaltender Kim Massa (Westford, MA) made 5 saves
in net for the Lancers while Keene State goaltender Sarah Campbell
(Auburn, MA) made 7 saves for the Owls.
Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they
travel to Fitchburg State College. Keene State will host
Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
