CLEARWATER, FLA. 3/21/05 - It was a very frustrating Monday for
the Keene State College baseball team which dropped both ends of a
doubleheader against Ramapo College of New Jersey at Clearwater,
Fla. After losing the first game 11-2, the Owls were blanked 3-0 in
the second game. Both losses came against freshmen pitchers.
Chris Stanisce, who had a perfect game through four innings,
gave up just three of KSC's four hits in the first game. The Owls
scored both of their runs in the fifth when Nick Arroyo
(Northridge, Ca.) singled and Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.)
doubled. Both came home on fielder's choice outs.
Phil Mabey (Williamstown, Mass.), who gave up five earned runs
and seven hits while striking out two, walking four and hitting two
batters in three and a third innings, took the loss (1-1).
Jesse Bartley scattered seven hits to pick up the complete win
for the Roadrunners (5-0) in the second game. The Owls, who left 11
runners on base, had the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth,
but couldn't get a run across the plate.
Pat Austin (Wallingford, Conn.) took the loss for KSC. The
senior right-hander went four and two-thirds innings giving up
three runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks. It was
his first decision of the season.
Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.) had two hits for the Owls.
Keene State (7-5) wraps up its Florida trip with a single game
against Macalester (Minn.) on Tuesday morning before flying back
home.
