Box Score 2 CASTLETON, VT. 04/10/05 - The Keene State College baseball team
split a non-conference doubleheader (5-10 and 9-1) against
Castleton State College on Sunday.
KSC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning of
game one on a John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) RBI double and a two-run
producing single by Greg Preston (Bow, N.H.) in the third, and Matt
Orszulak's (Campton, N.H.) fielder's choice RBI in the fourth. But
Castleton rallied to tie it up (4-4) in the bottom of the fourth
and took the lead for good in the fifth with five runs scored.
Andrew Buell (Petersham, Mass.) had two hits in the loss.
Owl starter Mike Cook (1-1)(Dover, Mass.), who took the loss,
struck out seven and walked but one in 4.0 innings. Mike Corsano
(Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) pitched two innings of relief.
In the second game, KSC started out strong in the third inning
with RBI doubles from Nick Arroyo (Northridge, Ca.) and Jeremy
Schilling (Centerville, Mass.). The Owls took the lead for good
with six runs scored in the fourth. Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.)
delivered a two-run single, Arroyo added an RBI single, and
Schilling registered a two-run triple to complete the Owls attack.
Ford went three-for-five with two RBI, while Arroyo and
Schilling each had two hits to lead KSC.
Phil Mabey (2-1) (Williamstown, Mass.) picked up the complete
game victory fanning five and allowing but one hit and one earned
run in seven innings of work. Adam Kuhn took the loss for
Castleton.
KSC (13-6) will travel to Amherst College for a non-conference
game on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.)
