FITCHBURG, MASS. 04/14/05 - Jim Abreau's (Mansfield, Mass.)
double to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Ray
Richards (Millbury, Mass.) with the winning run giving Fitchburg
State College a 6-5 victory over Keene State College in
non-conference baseball action on Thursday. KSC, which has lost two
straight, falls to 13-8, while Fitchburg goes to 9-10.
Trailing 2-0 after four innings, the Owls scored three runs on
two FSC errors and an RBI single by Jeremy Schilling (Centerville,
Mass.) to take a 3-2 lead. After the Falcons tied the score in the
fourth on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, KSC answered
with a run in the fifth after Mike Masseur (Warwick, R.I.) singled
to left field, then stole second and came home on Greg Ford's
(Nashua, N.H.) RBI hit. Fitchburg regained the lead (5-4) in the
fifth on a run-producing double by Tim Raymond (Sutton, Mass.), who
came around to score on Abreau's sacrifice fly. The Owls scored
their final run on an RBI single by Ford in the seventh.
Masseur and Ford each had three hits, while Nick Arroyo
(Northridge, Ca.) and Robert Merrill (Colchester, Conn.) added two
hits apiece to lead KSC. Owl starter Pat Austin (Wallingford,
Conn.) struck out three and gave up five runs in 5.1 innings on the
mound. Jim Slack (1-2) (Manchester, N.H.) took the loss for KSC.
Keene State will host Colby-Sawyer for a single nine-inning game on
Friday (3:30 p.m.) at Owl Athletic Complex.
