KEENE, N.H. 4/15/05 - Keene State College scored two runs in the
bottom of the eighth inning en route to a 4-2 non-conference
baseball victory over Colby-Sawyer College at Owl Athletic Complex
on Friday.
The victory snapped a two game losing streak by the Owls (14-8).
CSC falls to 12-9.
Loading the bases in the eighth, KSC scored a pair of runs when
John Maryanski (Nashua, N.H.) walked and Joe Rousseau (Nashua,
N.H.) was hit by a pitch.
Jim Slack (Manchester, N.H.), who took over for starter Mike
Corsano (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) got the win (2-2) with a scoreless
ninth inning.
KSC erased a run-scoring opportunity by the Chargers in the
first. With Lee Chubet (Arlington, Vt.), on first, Kevan Donovan
(Nashua, N.H.) doubled into the gap, but Chubet was tagged out at
home on a relay that went from rightfielder Josh Watkins (Keene,
N.H.) to second baseman Mike Massseur (Warwick, R.I..) to catcher
Greg Preston (Bow, N.H.).
After having a run cut down at the plate, the Owls got on the
board in the bottom of the third on an RBI double down the right
field line by Masseur that scored Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.).
Rousseau hit his first college home run, a solo shot to left in the
bottom of the fourth to make it 2-0.
The Chargers got on the board in the top of the sixth when Dan
O'Brien (Orford, N.H.) knocked in a run on an infield hit. They
tied the game in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI double from
Kris Ramsey (Gardner, Mass.). CSC had a chance to go ahead but
Chris Ames (Franklin, N.H.) was caught off third on a failed
suicide squeeze.
Masseaur and Orszulak had two hits each for KSC. Donovan had
three hits for the Chargers.
Corsano pitched seven strong innings for KSC giving up five hits
with six strikeouts and two walks. Charger starter Justin Sakovitz
(Stoneham, Mass.) gave up seven hits and fanned two in his five
innings on the mound. Kevin Crotty (Reading, Mass.) took the loss.
KSC returns to LEC play when it travels to UMass-Dartmouth on
Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
