NORTH DARTMOUH, MASS. 4/16/05 - Keene State College pushed
across three runs in the top of the eighth inning to post a
come-from-behind 7-5 win over UMass-Dartmouth in the second of a
Little East doubleheader at North Dartmouth on Saturday. The Owls
were shutout 4-0 in the first game.
With the split, KSC (15-9, 4-1 LEC) dropped its first LEC
contest of the season while UMD goes to 9-15 (3-4 LEC).
In the nightcap, the Owls took a 2-0 lead in the top of the
first with Nick Arroyo (Northridge, Ca.) knocking in a run. KSC
went up 3-1 in the third on a two-out RBI single from Greg Ford
(Nashua, N.H.). Ford RBI double in the fifth made it 4-1.
After the Corsairs took a 5-4 lead with a four run sixth inning,
KSC rallied for the win in the eighth. John Grainger (Keene, N.H.),
Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.), and Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.)
delivered RBI hits in the inning.
Ford and Grainger finished the game with three hits each.
Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) struck out four and walked three
over eight innings to pick up his third win of the season (3-0).
Jim Slack (Manchester, N.H.) pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his
second save of the season.
The Owls were limited to just four hits in the opener with
Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) going two-for-four. Jon Young
(Rindge, N.H.) who suffered his first loss of the season (3-1),
gave up six hits while fanning three and walking two over six
innings. Brian Dimitruck (Columbus, N.J.) and Jason Shea (Hatfield,
Mass.) also pitched for KSC.
Will Mahoney (Mattapoisette, Mass.) pitched into the eighth to
get the win for the Corsairs who got a second inning home run from
Ryan Sullivan.
Keene State will play a LEC doubleheader at R.I. College on
Sunday.
