KEENE, N.H. 4/20/05 - Ryan Kohler (Alstead , N.H) pitched six
strong innings and Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) went
three-for-three with four RBIs to lead Keene State College to a
10-2 Little East Conference baseball victory over rival Plymouth
State University at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
Keene State improves to 16-11 (5-3 LEC) while Plymouth State
falls to 5-20 (0-8 LEC). With a 9-6 win earlier this season, KSC
swept the two games series between the teams.
The Owls manufactured a run in the first inning when Ryan Jones
(Nashua, N.H.) singled, stole second, moved to third on a passed
ball, and scored on an infield out. In the second, the Owls added
three more runs. Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) knocked in two runs
with a bases loaded double to right. Orszulak added two more RBIs
in the third with a two out double.
Plymouth State got two runs back in the sixth inning when Derek
Guimond (Lewiston, Me.) scored on a groundout by Matt Gabellieri
(Lincoln, R.I.), and Trevor Hall (New Boston, N.H.) came home on a
wild pitch.
Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) answered back with a three-run home
run over the left-centerfield fence. It was the freshman's second
round-tripper of the season. John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) later
added an RBI single.
Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) and Mike Masseur (Warwick,
R.I.) added two hits each for KSC.
Kohler scattered five hits and walked two to improve his record
2-1. Both his wins came against the Panthers. Steve Wheeler
(Lancaster, N.H.), who gave up seven earned runs and seven hits
over five innings, took the loss.
Keene State hosts Westfield State in a non-conference game on
Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
