Baseball: Owls Edge Beacons 4-3

KEENE, N.H. 04/30/05 - Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) doubled to left field and came home on an error to break a 3-3 tie and give the Keene State College baseball team a 4-3 Little East Conference victory over UMass-Boston at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled to be played at UMB but was moved to Keene State due to lack of a playing field. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain. No make-up date has been set.

The Owls (19-11, 6-3 LEC) scored single runs in the first and second innings. Nick Arroyo (Northridge, Ca.) cracked an RBI double in the first. Schilling led off the second with a double and came home on a UMB error. KSC extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth with Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) hitting a run-producing single to left center.

The Beacons got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice by David Waters (Millis, Mass.) and a RBI single from Jeran Mondalto's (Amesbury, Mass.).With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, UMB tied it up (3-3) when Waters singled to left field and scored on an outfield error. That set the stage for KSC's winning rally in the top of the ninth.

Schilling finished the game with three hits, while Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) added two hits to lead KSC. Pat Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) had two hits to lead UMB.

Owl starter Jon Young (Rindge, N.H.), who allowed six hits, fanned six, walked two, over the first eight innings to pick up his fourth win of the season (4-1). Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) pitched a scoreless ninth to notch his eighth save of the season.

Nick Conway (Methuen, Mass.) took the loss for the Beacons. He struck out one and gave up two hits in two innings of relief.

KSC will face the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference doubleheader on Sunday (Noon) at Owl Athletic Complex.
