'KEENE, N.H. 09/21/05 - Ali Corso's (Farmington, Conn.) goal,
her first of the season, midway in the first half stood up as the
game-winner as Keene State College held off Middlebury 1-0 in a
non-conference women's soccer game played Wednesday in Keene.
Keene improves to 5-0-2 while Middlebury goes to 2-2.
Coming up from the backfield, Corso, a junior back, put the ball
just under the cross bar from 25-yards out.
Middlebury had several chances to tie the game in the second
half. Its best opportunity came with 17:30 minutes to play
when KSC keeper Sarah Campbell (Auburn, Mass.) stopped a close
range shot from Ashley Pfaff (Charlotte, Vt.).
Later in the half with 2:35 to go, Kim Walker's (Ridgewood,
N.J.) deep shot from the left side was mishandled by
Campbell. Owl defender Missy Mengual (East Berlin, Conn.)
knocked the ball away before it crossed the goal line.
Campbell made nine saves to notch her third shutout of the
season. Adele Plunkett (Austin, TX.) stopped two shots for
the Panthers.
Middlebury defeated KSC 2-0 in a second round NCAA Tournament
game last fall.
KSC returns to LEC play on Saturday when it hosts Southern Maine
(1 p.m.).
