'KEENE, N.H. 9/24/05 - Eva Hanson's (Warner, N.H.) goal late in
the first half lifted the University of Southern Maine to a 1-0
upset win over Keene State College in Little East Conference
women's soccer action at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Hanson put a rebound shot past Owl goalie Sarah Campbell
(Auburn, Mass.) for the game-winner and her fourth goal of the
season. It was the first win by the Huskies (6-2, 2-0
LEC) over the Owls (5-1-2, 0-1-1 LEC) in LEC play, a span that
includes nine games. KSC, which suffers its first loss, came into
the game ranked seventh in New England.
Both goalies came up with big saves in the early stages of the
game. Campbell made diving saves on Hanson and Liz Brunton (Birch
Harbor, Me.).
Later in the half, USM goalie Mindy Morneault (Eagle Lake, Me.)
stopped a break-in bids by Breanne Lucey (Keene, N.H.) and Katie
Stevens (Londonderry, N.H.).
Stevens had a chance to tie the game at the 24:52 mark of the
second half, but her shot from short range was saved by Morneault.
Morneault was shaken up on a collision following the save but
remained in the game.
Lucey hand another chance to knot the score but her shot with 11
minutes to play went wide of the post.
Campbell finished with eight saves for KSC while USM's Morneault
stopped eight shots for her first shutout of the season.
