Men's Soccer: No. 14 Owls Hold Off Pride 4-2

'KEENE, N.H. 9/7/05 - Keene State College improved to 3-0 with a non-conference 4-2 men's soccer victory over Springfield College at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night. KSC scored the first four goals of the game and hung on for the win.

Caleb Patterson (Barrington, N.H.) and Alex Horne (Harvard, Mass.) had a goal and assist each to lead the Owls.   Mike Cooley's (Northborough, Mass.) goal  26 seconds into the second half was the game-winner.

The Owls didn't waste anytime getting on the board.  Paterson settled a pass from Stephen Attardo (Braintree, Mass.) and fired the ball past Pride goalie B.J. Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) 3:43 into the game.

Goalie Cal Mintz (Westport, Conn.) preserved KSC's lead when he tipped a shot by Matt Aucoin (Canton, Mass.) over the crossbar.  Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass) gave the Owls a 2-0 lead later in the half when he took a crossing ball from Paterson and found the far corner of the net for his third goal of the season.

KSC quickly extended its lead with two quick second half goals by Cooley and Horne. It was the third goal of the season for both freshman strikers. Pride goals by Michael Burke (Loundonville, N.Y.) and Jeremy Scheer (Enfield, Conn.) cut the Owls' lead to 4-2 midway in the half.

KSC back Mike Lewis (Manchester, Conn.) kept it a two goal game when he stopped a shot by Aucoin with goalie Scott Pannone (Wolcott, Conn.) out of position.

Mintz (two saves)and  Pannone (one save) saw action in goal for KSC. Sturdivant (six saves) and Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del.) (two saves) each played a half in goal for Springfield.

KSC is at Wheaton College on Saturday (1 p.m.)
