'KEENE, N.H. 9/7/05 - Keene State College improved to 3-0 with a
non-conference 4-2 men's soccer victory over Springfield College at
Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday night. KSC scored the first four
goals of the game and hung on for the win.
Caleb Patterson (Barrington, N.H.) and Alex Horne (Harvard,
Mass.) had a goal and assist each to lead the Owls.
Mike Cooley's (Northborough, Mass.) goal 26 seconds into the
second half was the game-winner.
The Owls didn't waste anytime getting on the board.
Paterson settled a pass from Stephen Attardo (Braintree, Mass.) and
fired the ball past Pride goalie B.J. Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) 3:43
into the game.
Goalie Cal Mintz (Westport, Conn.) preserved KSC's lead when he
tipped a shot by Matt Aucoin (Canton, Mass.) over the
crossbar. Eric Scott (West Springfield, Mass) gave the Owls a
2-0 lead later in the half when he took a crossing ball from
Paterson and found the far corner of the net for his third goal of
the season.
KSC quickly extended its lead with two quick second half goals
by Cooley and Horne. It was the third goal of the season for both
freshman strikers. Pride goals by Michael Burke (Loundonville,
N.Y.) and Jeremy Scheer (Enfield, Conn.) cut the Owls' lead to 4-2
midway in the half.
KSC back Mike Lewis (Manchester, Conn.) kept it a two goal game
when he stopped a shot by Aucoin with goalie Scott Pannone
(Wolcott, Conn.) out of position.
Mintz (two saves)and Pannone (one save) saw action in goal
for KSC. Sturdivant (six saves) and Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington,
Del.) (two saves) each played a half in goal for Springfield.
KSC is at Wheaton College on Saturday (1 p.m.)
