'Providence, RI10/14/06 -Keene State scored two goals in the
first 14 minutes of the game on its way to shut out Rhode Island
College, 2-0, in a battle of Little East Conference women's soccer
rivals. Keene State sophomore midfielder Kathleen Keniston
(Minneapolis, MN) converted an senior midfielder Ali Corso
(Farmington, CT) pass at 1:24 with what proved to be the eventual
game-winning goal.
The Owls didn't let up as junior back Amy St. John (Barre, VT)
lofted a shot in from 18 yards out to give KSC a two-goal lead at
13:19. Freshman goalkeeper Liz Rosen (Swanzey, NH) was perfect in
net, turning away six Anchorwomen shots to earn her fourth shutout
of the season and improve to 6-5 overall.
Rhode Island College sophomore goalkeeper Krissie Pyzynski
(Bristol, CT) suffered the loss, making five saves as her record
dips to 11-3.
All three of Rhode Island College's losses have been, 2-0,
shutouts, most recently against LEC first place team Western
Connecticut on Oct. 7. The Anchorwomen fall to 13-2 overall and 3-2
in the Little East. The loss puts Rhode Island College in jeopardy
of losing a first round bye opportunity for the upcoming Little
East Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.
Keene State, which improves to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the Little
East has never lost to Rhode Island College. The Owls own a 9-0-1
mark in ten meetings all-time with the Anchorwomen.
In upcoming action, KSC host Tufts on Wednesday (5 p.m.).
RIC will host Westfield State on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
