PHOENIX, Ariz. 3/14/2006 - The Keene State baseball team split a pair of games in Phoenix on Tuesday. After dropping a 10-6 game to William Patterson (N.J.) University, the Owls rallied for an 8-7 10-inning victory over North Park (Ill.) College.
In the 10th inning against North Park, KSC loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) and Nick Arroyo (Northridge, CA.) and an intentional walk to Josh Watkins (Keene, N.H.). Freshman Jamie Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
KSC had 13 hits in the game with Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.), Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.), Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.), John Grainger (Keene, N.H.), and Rousseau all picking up two hits. Grainger also had two RBIs.
Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) got the win in relief. He pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, giving up three hits, fanning three and not issuing a walk. Jake Tenney started going five innings and giving up four runs.
Keene State collected 11 hits in the loss to William Patterson. Ford led the way with two hits and three RBIs. Buck Merrill (Colchester, Conn.) added a couple of hits and two RBIs while Schilling and Rousseau each finished with two hits each.
WPU opened up the game with a five run third inning.
Jamie Morin (Goffstown, N.H.) took the pitching loss. He struggled in his 5 2/3 innings on the mound giving up eight runs with two strikeouts and one walk.
Keene State (3-1) plays Albertus Magnus (Conn.) University on Wednesday.
