PHOENIX, Ariz. 3/15/2006 - Good pitching, productive hitting, and solid defense helped Keene State College sweep Albertus Magnus (Conn.) College 10-4 and 10-1 in a baseball doubleheader in Phoenix, Ariz., on Wednesday.
Freshman Jamie Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) picked up his first college win and Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) went three-for-three with two RBIs to lead KSC in the opener.
Schilling had RBI singles in the first and third innings. The Owls added three more runs in the fourth with Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) and Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.) collecting run-producing hits. Rousseau finished the game with two hits.
Chevalier, who had a perfect game until two outs in the fifth, gave up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk to get the win.
The Owls were perfect in the field with no errors.
Mike Cook (Dover Mass.) tossed a one-hitter over six innings and Andrew Buell (Petersham, Mass.) knocked in four runs in the nightcap.
KSC broke the game open early with a five run second inning that included a two-run double from Buell, and RBI singles from Schilling and John Grainger. Buell added a two-run single in the fourth inning. Nick Arroyo (Northridge, Ca.) and Shawn Howey (East Hartford, Conn.) finished the game with two hits each.
Cook carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. He gave up one run on one hit while fanning three and walking three batters. Kevin Binney (Hopedale, Mass.) gave up one hit in the seventh inning.
Keene State, 5-1 on its spring week trip, plays a twinbill against McDaniel College of Maryland on Thursday.
