'PHOENIX, AZ. 3/19/06 - The Keene State College baseball
team concluded its spring week trip to Phoenix with a 6-2 win over
Roger Williams (R.I.) University on Sunday.
The Owls, who ended their trip with an 8-4 mark, had 10 hits in
the come-from-behind victory played in unseasonable cold and rainy
weather. The game was called after eight innings due to
unplayable field conditions.
After RWU went up 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, KSC answered
with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Owls
scored their runs on RBI singles from Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) and
Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) and a sacrifice fly from Nick Arroyo
(Northfield, Ca.).
KSC added two more runs in the seventh. Josh Watkins
(Keene, N.H.) walked and came home on Shawn Howey's (East Hartford,
Conn.) triple. Howey scored on a Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.)
RBI single. In the eighth, Arroyo single and moved to third
on two pass balls. He scored on Jeremy Schilling's (Centerville,
Mass.) ground out.
John Grainger (Keene, N.H.), Schilling, Rousseau, and Jones
finished the game with two hits each.
The Owls got a solid outing on the mound from sophomore Jamie
Morin (Goffstown, N.H.) who gave up two unearned runs, three hits
with six strikeouts and two walks. Ford got the final two out
to notch the save.
Despite missing their first two days because of rain, the Owls
were able to play 12 of their 13 games on the trip. "Overall I was
very pleased with the trip," said KSC Coach Ken Howe. "It was
tough on the guys playing 12 games in seven days. Everyone's
a little tired and sore. We didn't have a chance to regroup,
but I from top to bottom everybody stepped up."
KSC's first game up north is scheduled for Wed., March 29 at
home against Springfield College.
