'KEENE, N.H. 4/12/06 - The Keene State College baseball team
posted a come-from-behind 8-3 non-conference victory over Amherst
College at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
Trailing 3-0 after two innings, the Owls got two runs back in
the third on an RBI single from James Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.),
who later scored on a wild pitch.
KSC (18-7) took the lead for good with a three run fourth
inning. Nick Arroyo (Northridge, Ca.) knocked in two runs with a
bases loaded single to right. Chevalier brought home another
run with an infield hit.
In the fifth Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) singled to
left to set a new KSC career hit mark (157). The previous record
was held by Geoff Sylvester. Schilling, who also broke the
Owl career stolen base mark (29) last week, added to his total when
he stole second and came home on an error. Joe Rousseau
(Nashua, N.H.) plated another run with a ground out.
Arroyo had three hits and Schilling and Chevalier finished with
two hits each for KSC.
Tom Scott (Randolph, N.H.) had two hits, including his first
home run of the season, a three-run shot to left in the second
inning for Amherst (13-5-1).
Jake Tenney (Surry, N.H.) (2-1) scattered eight hits to go with
five strikeouts and one walk to pick up his second win of the
season. Starter Ben Goldfarb (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.)
took the loss for the Jeffs, who saw their 12-game unbeaten streak
come to an end.
Both teams came into the game tied for fourth in this week's New
England Division III poll. "This was a statement game for
us," said KSC Coach Ken Howe, whose Owls dropped a pair of tough
games to St. Joseph's College on Sunday. "We got a great game
from Tenney, some timely hits, and made the plays in the
field. Hopefully, it's the start of things to come.
KSC travels to Fitchburg State on Thursday. Amherst is at
rival Williams on Friday.
