'Henniker, NH 4/27/06 - The Keene State College baseball team
pounded out 14 hits en route to a 12-1 non-conference victory over
New England College in Henniker, N.H. on Thursday afternoon.
The Owls improve to 24-11, tying a record for most wins in a
season (24) set by the 1999 squad, while NEC dropped to 8-23
overall.
Keene State would jump all over the Pilgrims scoring five runs
in the first on John Grainger's (Keene, N.H.) RBI single, Joe
Rousseau's (Nashua, N.H.) two-run double, Nick Arroyo's
(Northridge, Ca.) RBI ground out, and Buck Merrill's (Colchester,
Conn.) run producing single. KSC tacked on runs in the next four
innings to build a comfortable 12-1 lead over NEC.
NEC was able to hold the Owls scoreless in the final four
innings.
The Pilgrims lone run would come in the bottom of the second
inning after Matt Leger (Concord, N.H.) singled and came home on
Joe Leo's (Stoneham, Mass.) sacrifice fly.
Leading the way offensively for Keene was Jeremy Schilling
(Centerville, MA) who was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in
and two runs scored. Rousseau and Arroyo also finished with
two hits and two runs batted in each.
Five different Owls saw action on the mound this afternoon but
starter Jamie Morin (Goffstown, NH) (4-1) would pick up the win,
pitching five complete innings allowing no earned runs on three
hits and striking out four.
Keene State will host UMass-Boston in an LEC doubleheader on
Saturday (Noon) at Owl Athletic Complex.
