'AMHERST, MA - Junior Nick Kehoe (Washington Depot, CT) tossed a
complete-game, two-hitter on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-2 on
the year and guide the Amherst College baseball team to a 4-0
non-conference victory over visiting Keene State College. The Jeffs
avenged their previous loss to the Owls this season and improved to
20-9-1 overall, while Keene St. dropped to 26-12.
Kehoe was incredibly dominant, striking out seven of the 33
batters he faced, while walking just two. He got all the run
support he needed in the bottom of the fifth as Keene St. sophomore
Phil Mabey (Williamstown, MA) plunked back-to-back hitters to allow
Amherst sophomore Neal Allar (Floyds Knobs, IN) to score.
The Jeffs notched a trio of insurance tallies in the following
frame as Allar and rookie Angus Schaller (Leucadia, CA) slapped
consecutive singles to score fellow first-year Brendan Powers
(Walpole, MA), and
senior Andrew Green (Lexington, MA) continued his hot-hitting
ways, knifing a base hit through the right side to plate Allar and
Schaller.
Green led the Jeffs, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI,
and Allar went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
Mabey went 5.1 innings for the Owls, surrendering all four runs
on six hits and two walks, while striking out five. He drops to 2-2
on the season.
Owls get back into action next Saturday at Eastern Conn.
