Baseball: Owls Drop Two to St. Joseph's (Me.)

'KEENE, N.H. 4/9/06 - The Keene State College baseball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader (6-2 and 5-4) to St. Joseph College of Maine at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday. 

Keene State falls to 17-7 while St Joseph improves to 16-6.

 

 

Trailing 6-0 in the opener, the Owls took advantage of a pair of Monk errors, a RBI single from James Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) and an infield hit from Jeremy Schilling (Centerville, Mass.) to cut their deficit to 6-2. Chevalier had two hits for KSC. Dustin Spiller (Gorham, Me.) had three hits and Luke Enman (Milan, N.H.) finished with two hits for St. Joseph's.

 

 

Owl starter Phil Mabey (Williamstown, Mass.) (2-1) took the loss for Owls. He went 4 and 2/3 innings gave up six unearned runs on six hits, striking out three and walking none.

 

 

Sam Tupper (Yarmouth, Me.) (3-0) got the win for the Monks.  He went 5 2/3 innings giving up two runs on five hits with three Ks and two walks.

 

   

In the second game, KSC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI double from Schilling.  With two outs, he Owls added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Nick Arroyo's (Northridge, Ca.) double to right center scored two runs and Buck Merrill (Colchester, Conn.) brought Arroyo home with a double to the same spot.

 

 

Keil Martin (Saco, Me.) tied the score at 4-all with a three run home run in the top of the sixth inning.  Ben Muniz (Readfield, Mass.) won the game for the Monks with a solo home run to right field in the ninth inning.

 

 

In the bottom of the ninth, Schilling singled, stole second and went to third on an infield out, but was left stranded on third base. Schilling finished the game with four hits.

 

 

Reliever Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) took the loss for KSC.  Charlie Furbush got the win for the Monks.

 

 

KSC hosts Amherst College on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.).
