'GLASSBORO, NJ - The Keene State men's soccer team won the
Harrison House Invitational with a 2-0 victory over host Rowan
University.
The Owls (2-0) scored one goal in each half. Forward
Scott Cluff (fr. Kingston, MA) had the first one at 42:50 from
forward Noah Hertzler (so. Hancock, NH). Midfielder Mike
Vitone (fr. East Greenwich, RI), who beat two players in the box
and fired in a bullet from 18 yards out, had an unassisted goal at
81:08.
Keene State totaled 17 shots while Rowan took four. Goalie
Cal Mintz (jr. Westport, CT) stopped two shots for the
shutout. For the Profs, Anthony Clemente (sr. Kendall Park,
NJ) made nine saves.
"It was a great team effort," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher, who
notched his 500th career win at Keene State (he collected his 500th
overall win last season). "The defense was solid and kept Rowan at
bay."
Keene State midfielder Eric Scott (sr. West Springfield, MA) was
chosen the Most Valuable Player of the invitational. He was
joined on the All-Tournament team by midfielder Jeremy Kelsey (jr.
Gilford, NH), back Stephen Attardo (so. Braintree, MA), forward
Alex Horne (so. Harvard, MA) and back Ryan Farnsworth (so.
Merrimack, NH).
Rowan players that made All-Tournament were back Doug Johnson
(sr. Shamong, NJ), midfielder Dan Arnold (fr. Sicklerville, NJ),
forward Sean Docherty (jr. Brick, NJ) and Clemente.
Midfielder Barry Magagna (jr. Philadelphia, PA) from Cabrini and
midfielder Eric Olsen-Tank (so. Miller Place, NY) from St. Joseph's
were also named to the All-Tournament team.
Cabrini College won the consolation game, 1-0 over St. Joseph's
College. In the opening round on Friday, Rowan University had
a 2-0 win against Cabrini College while Keene State defeated St.
Joseph's College, 6-1.
Keene State is at Springfield College on Wednesday (7 p.m.)
