'KEENE, N.H. 9/26/06 - Junior midfielder Amanda Ramos (Williston
Park, N.Y.) had three goals including the game-winner with 56
seconds left to play to lead Clark University to a 3-2 victory over
Keene State College in a non-conference women's soccer game played
at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
Ramos' shot from just inside the box slipped through the hands
of Owl goalie Liz Rosen (Swanzey, N.H.) to give the Cougars (2-6)
their second win of the season. Keene State record falls to
5-5. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Ramos put Clark on top 1-0 at the 2:17 mark of the first half
with a shot to the far corner of the net. Ramos doubled the Cougars
lead when she scored on a breakaway at the 16:32 mark.
Keene State cut the lead to 2-1 with four seconds to play in the
half when Renee Halsey (Francestown, N.H.) put a loose ball by
Cougar goalie Thea Link (Irvington, N.Y.).
The Owls, who out shot the Cougars 28-9 in the game, kept the
pressure on in the second half and tied the game when Kendra
Spencer (Petoskey, Mich.) finished off a crossing pass from
Courtney Gately (Canton, Mass.).
After Ramos put Clark ahead, KSC had a chance to send the game
into overtime, but Link stopped a pair of shots by Kathleen
Keniston (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Gately in the closing seconds to
preserve the win.
The game was a rematch of last year's ECAC final won by the Owls
2-0.
Rosen had two saves for KSC while Link finished with 12 saves
for Clark.
Both teams return to action on Saturday, Keene State hosts rival
Plymouth State and Clark travels to Wellesley College for 1 p.m.
games.
