'KEENE, N.H. 9/30/06 - Tara Wagner's (Avon, Conn.) goal at the
6:09 mark of overtime lifted Keene State College to a 3-2 Little
East Conference women's soccer victory over rival Plymouth State
University at Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.
"It came across my right foot and I just hit it in," said Wagner
about her fifth goal of the season. "Both Courtney (Gately) and I
touched it, so I guess we did it together. I thought we dominated
in the overtime. We wanted this win."
Both teams scored first half goals. Laura DiSabato
(Manchester, N.H.), whose sister Stacy plays for the Panthers, gave
KSC a 1-0 lead when she scored on a rebound at the 9:24 mark.
Plymouth State tied the scored later in the half Ashley Dassatti
(Hampstead, N.H.) when she finished a touch pass from Brianna
Coderre (Ira, Vt.).
Breanne Lucey (Keene, N.H.) gave KSC a 2-1 lead at the 81:32
mark of the second half following a flurry at the side of the
Panther net. PSC answered three minutes later when Lauren
Lavery (Nashua, N.H.) put a header by Owl goalie Liz Rosen
(Swanzey, N.H.).
KSC had a chance to win the game with 25 seconds left in
regulation. On a corner play, Wagner and Kendra Spencer
(Petoskey, Mich.) used a give and go to set up a header by Michelle
Boland (Worcester, Mass.) that sailed just wide of the post. Wagner
came back to net the game winner in overtime.
Rosen finished with seven saves for KSC which improves to 6-5,
(2-1 LEC). Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, R.I.) stopped three
shots for the Panthers (4-4, 1-2 LEC).
Both teams return to action on Wednesday. Keene State hosts
Worcester State (7 p.m. and Plymouth State is at Salem State
College (6 p.m.).
