PHOENIX, AZ. 3/11/07 - The Keene State College baseball team
spit a doubleheader against William Patterson (N.J.) University in
Phoenix on Sunday. The Owls (2-2) won the opener 5-2, but
lost the second game 9-5.
In the first game, KSC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning
on an RBI double by John Grainger Keene, N.H.). The Owls
added four more runs in the sixth. Grainger had a two-run
triple and Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) and Beau Darak (Londonderry,
N.H.) had RBI singles.
The Pioneers got their two runs on an inside the park home run in
the bottom of the sixth.
Jones, Grainger, and Darak had two hits each in the game.
Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) went five plus innings to pick up the
win. The senior gave up just two hits while striking out two
and walking four. Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) pitched the final
inning and two-thirds to notch his first save of the season.
Keene State appeared on its way to a second win after taking a 5-1
lead in the first inning of the second game. But Owl bats
shutdown from there.
KSC's first inning featured two run hits from Joe Rousseau (Nashua,
N.H.) and Darak, and a RBI single from Ford.
Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.), Rousseau, Ford, and Anthony Cipolla
(Glastonbury, Conn.) had two hits a piece.
Jon Young (Rindge, N.H.) took the loss for the Owls. He
pitched four innings giving up seven hits with four strikeouts and
one walk.
KSC plays a pair against Roger Williams University on Monday.
Following the game, the Owls will attend the Phoenix Suns game.
