PHOENIX, AZ 3/14/07 - The Keene State College baseball team
split a doubleheader against Webster (Mo.) University in Phoenix on
Wednesday. The Owls (5-3) dropped the opener 9-2, but came
back to take the second game 3-2.
Webster qualified for the NCAA tournament the past two years.
In the first game, KSC scored its only runs in the bottom of the
second and fourth innings. Beau Darak (Londonderry, N.H.),
who went two-for-three in the game, had an RBI double in the second
and Anthony Cipolla (Glastonbury, Conn.) had an RBI single in the
fourth.
James Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) took the loss for the Owls. He gave
up five runs and seven hits in his four-plus innings of work on the
mound. Mike Cook (Dover, Mass.) and Andy Wardwell (Belmont, N.H.)
also pitched for KSC.
Keene State scored single runs in the first three innings and
hanged on to win the second game.
Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.) gave KSC a 1-0 lead in the first with a
RBI double. Peter Hall (Danielson, Conn.) and John Grainger
(Keene, N.H.) had sacrifice flies in the second and third innings
respectively.
Freshman Jameson Wentworth (Peabody, Mass.) made his first start
for the Owls. He tossed three innings giving up one run and two
hits with two strikeouts and four walks. Dan Martin
(Cromwell, Conn.), Rob DelBuono (Trumbull, Conn.), and Greg Ford
(Nashua, N.H.) followed Wentworth on the mound.
DelBuono got the win and Ford struck out the side in the seventh
inning to notch the save.
Keene State plays a twinbill against Simpson College of Iowa on
Thursday.
