PHOENIX, AZ 3/15/07 - The Keene State College baseball team
swept a doubleheader against Simpson College of Iowa in Phoenix on
Thursday. The Owls collected 14 hits to win the opener
9-6. KSC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to
post a come-from-behind 6-5 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Brett Savard (Nashua, N.H.) and Peter Hall
(Danielson, Conn.) had RBI hits in a three-run second inning.
The Owls added four more runs in the fourth with Beau Darak
(Londonderry, N.H.) belting a two-run home run and Hall and Jeff
Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.) getting RBI hits.
Perkins, Darak, and Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) had three hits each in
the game.
Owl starter Jamie Morin (Goffstown, N.H.) picked up the win.
He gave up five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and four
walks in his five innings of work. Ford pitched a 1-2-3
seventh inning to get the save.
KSC added 10 more hits in the nightcap.
Simpson scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to take a
5-3 lead. With one out, Perkins got one run back with an RBI
single. Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) had a clutch two-out RBI
single to tie the game. With runner of first and second, Ford
hit a grounder back to the Storm pitcher who over threw first
allowing Rousseau to score the wining run.
Rousseau, Ford, and Perkins had two hits each for the Owls.
Mike Cook (Dover, Mass.) KSC's fourth pitcher in the game got the
win in relief. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking
out one batter.
After a day off, Keene State (7-3) wraps up its trip with games
against Johns Hopkins and College of New Jersey on Saturday.
