NORTH CLARENDON, VT. 4/1/07 -Keene State hitters banged out 18
hits and freshman pitcher Julian Lugo (Yorktown Heights, N.H.)
pitched five solid innings to pick up his first college win en
route to a 8-1 non-conference baseball victory over Castleton State
(5-6) in a game played Sunday at Mill River Union High School in
North Clarendon, Vt.
The Owls scored all their runs in three innings. With two
outs in the top of the second KSC scored two runs in an RBI double
from Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, N.H.) and a RBI single by James
Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.).
John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) came up to bat with the bases loaded in
the sixth and delivered a two-run single to make it 4-1. KSC
added four more runs in the eighth. Peter Hall (Danielson,
Conn.) had a pitch hit two-run single, Joe Rousseau (Nashua,
N.H.) hit his first home run of the season, and Ryan
Jones completed the scoring with an RBI triple.
Chevalier, Grainger, and Buck Merrill (Colchester, Conn.) finished
the game with three hits each.
Making his first start, Lugo gave up one earned run on six hits
with three strikeouts and one walk. Chevalier threw three
innings of one hit ball with two strikeouts, and Greg Ford (Nashua,
N.H.) pitched the ninth with a walk and a strikeout.
Keene State (12-7) hosts rival Plymouth State on Wednesday (3:30
p.m.).
