Baseball: Keene State defeats Fitchburg State.

FITCHBURG, MASS - Keene State College starting pitcher John Young (Rindge , NH/Conant) held
Fitchburg State College scoreless over the first five innings enroute to an 82 Owls victory at Elliot Field in Fitchburg Wednesday afternoon.

Keene St. moves to 15-8 with the win while FSC falls to 8-11 overall. Young scattered eight hits and two runs over 6.2 innings of duty while fanning six and walking four. James Chevalier (Amherst,NH/Souhegan) pitched the final 2.1 innings of three hit three strikeout baseball for the Owls. After two innings of scoreless baseball, the Owls struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third frame on a Jeff Perkins (Dunbarton, NH/Goffstown) tworun single.

Keene picked up another run in the fourth and extended the cushion to 50 after six innings of play on backtoback run-producting doubles by Beau Darak (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) and Peter Hall (Danielson, CT/Killingly). The Falcons answered with a twoout tworun rally in the top of the seventh inning. Matt Slattery(Gardner, MA/Gardner) plated two runs on a bases loaded single to left field that plated Jim Abreau (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) and subsequently Troy DiMauro (Foxboro, MA/Massasoit CC) after a throwing error.

That would be as close as FSC would get however, as Keene answered in the eighth with three runs. Darak provided the majority of the damage with a two-runline drive double down the left field line. Hecame around to score on Hall's double for an 8-2 advantage.

Darak finished the day 2 for 4 with three RBI while Hall was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Greg Ford (Nashua, NH/Nashua) was the only other Owl to have a multiple hit game, going 2for4 with a run scored.

For Fitchburg, the middle of the order combined for seven of the team's 11 hits, but could not string them together. Abreau, the No. 3 hitter, was 2 for 5 while cleanup hitter Jeff Paquette (Billerica,MA/Shawsheen) went 2 for 4 and Slattery was 3 for 4 with an RBI. DiMauro was the only other Falcon to collect more than one hit (2 for 2, run scored).

The Owls next game is scheduled for Saturday, April 14 at Owl Athletic Complex against Western Connecticut State for a 12:00 pm start.
