enabled the winning run to score in the bottom of the 10th inning
as Wheaton College came back to defeat Keene State 4-3 in a
non-conference baseball game played Friday in Norton, Mass.
Keene State led 3-1 until Wheaton plated two runs with two outs in
the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
The Owls (15-9) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on five
consecutive singles. John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) and Greg
Ford (Nashua, N.H.) drove in runs. An RBI single by Joe Rousseau
(Nashua, N.H.) put the Owls up 3-1 in the seventh.
Keene State starter Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) pitched six strong
innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out three and
walking two batters. Mike Riley (East Hartford), KSC's fifth
pitcher of the game, entered the game in the ninth inning and took
the loss.
It was the first meeting between Keene State and Wheaton (19-7)
on the diamond.
Keene State remains on the road with a game at Brandeis University
on Sunday (12 p.m.).
