Baseball: Owls Fall in Extra Innings 4-3

NORTON, MASS.  4/13/07 - Adam LaPlant's (Harwich, Mass.) bad hop ground ball over shortstop Ryan Jones (Nashua, N.H.) enabled the winning run to score in the bottom of the 10th inning as Wheaton College came back to defeat Keene State 4-3 in a non-conference baseball game played Friday in Norton, Mass.

Keene State led 3-1 until Wheaton plated two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

The Owls (15-9) took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on five consecutive singles.  John Grainger (Keene, N.H.) and Greg Ford (Nashua, N.H.) drove in runs. An RBI single by Joe Rousseau (Nashua, N.H.) put the Owls up 3-1 in the seventh.

Keene State starter Rick Stromgren (Keene, N.H.) pitched six strong innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out three and walking two batters. Mike Riley (East Hartford), KSC's fifth pitcher of the game, entered the game in the ninth inning and took the loss.
