MANCHESTER, N.H 4/20/07 - The Keene State College baseball team
defeated rival Plymouth State University 8-3 in a Little East
Conference game played at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Friday.
Playing on the home field of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher
Cats, the Owls (17-9, 4-1 LEC) took advantage of six Panther errors
to win for the eighth time in 10 games.
Keene State, which finished the game with 11 hits, took a 1-0
lead on a sacrifice fly by Ben Fournier in the second inning.
In the third, James Chevalier came home following a run down play.
KSC added another run in the third when Joe Rousseau scored after a
collision between two PSU fielders.
KSC extended its lead to 5-1 in the top of the fifth on an RBI
double by Anthony Cipolla, who later came around to score on a
passed ball. Greg Ford, Rousseau, and Cipolla had RBIs singles in
the ninth. Cipolla was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Beau Darak
went 3-for-4 for the Owls.
Starter Jamie Morin (3-2) tossed six solid innings, allowing 10
hits, but just two earned runs. He struck out three and didn't
issue a walk. Ben Sonberg, Dan Martin, and Chevalier
combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief.
Keene State travels to UMass-Boston on Saturday for an LEC
doubleheader against the Beacons.
