PAXTON, MASS. 4/25/07 - Buck Merrill's (Colchester, Conn.)
two-out RBI single scored Peter Hall (Danielson, Conn.) with the
game-winning run in the top of the fifth inning to lift Keene State
College to a 5-4 non-conference victory over Becker College in five
inning game played at Anna Maria College.
Kevin Binney (Hopedale, Mass.) retired the Hawks in the bottom
of the inning, KSC plated four more runs in the top of the sixth,
but the game was called due to rain and the score reverted back to
the last full inning of play.
The Owls scored four runs on five hits and three Becker errors
in the first inning. Beau Darak (Londonderry, N.H.) had a
run-producing hit and Hall had a two-run single to highlight the
inning.
Becker scored one run in the bottom of the first and three more
in the third to tie the game. Jay Paquette (Oxford, Mass.)
knocked in the tying run for the Hawks (7-17).
Hall began the fifth inning rally with a two out walk. He
advanced to second on a balk and scored on Merrill's single up the
middle. It was Merrill's third RBI of the season.
James Chevalier (Amherst, N.H.) also had a couple of hits for
the Owls.
Jameson Wentworth (Peabody, Mass.) pitched into the third inning
before giving way to Binney. Making his second start of the
season, Wentworth gave up four runs on four hits with a strikeout
and two walks. Binney, who got the final out of the third
with Becker runners on first and second, picked up his first win of
the season. He gave up just one hit and fanned two in his 2.1
innings of work.
Winners of eight straight, Keene State (23-9) hosts Southern Maine
in a key LEC doubleheader on Saturday (12 p.m.).
