first half goal was the difference as Middlebury College shutout
Keene State 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action at
Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.
Keene State drops to 5-3. Middlebury improves to 2-1-1.
The Owls were held to just one shot on goal in the
game.
The Panthers finished the game with 10 shots.
The Owls missed an opportunity to get on the board five minutes
into the game, but Kendra Spencer's (Petoskey, Mich.) direct kick
from just outside the box clanged off the cross bar.
Lindsay Walker (Ridgewood, N.J.) had a couple of scoring chances
for the Panthers. Walker's header was saved by Owl goalie
Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) and her follow up shot just went
wide of the far post.
The lone goal of the game came at the 16:42 mark of the first half
when Owen floated a long shot from 40-yards out that went just
under the cross bar and over the outstretched hands of Hirsh.
Walker had a chance to extend Middlebury's lead midway in the
second half, but her shot from the right side hit off the cross
bar. Carley Berger (Princeton, N.J) sent the rebound over the net.
Hirsh stopped nine shots for KSC. Adele Plunkett (Austin,
Tex.) and Lauren Torch (Bronxville, N.Y.) each played a half in
goal for Middlebury. Plunkett had one save.
Keene State plays at rival Plymouth State on Saturday.Middlebury
travels to Wesleyan on Saturday.
