Diadora Tournament: Hobart Defeats Owls 1-0

KEENE, N.H.9/2/07 - Tyler Webster's (Action, Mass.) goal early in the second half was the difference as Hobart College handed host Keene State College a 1-0 loss in the second day of the WEGOTSOCCER-Diadora Soccer Showdown at Owl Athletic Complex.

KSC, which starts its season at 0-2 for the first time since 2002n lost to Ithaca College 4-2 on Saturday.  Hobart, ranked 18th in the NSCAA preseason poll, goes to 2-0.  The Statesmen edged Worcester State 2-1 on Saturday.

Webster scored the only goal of the game when he finished off a crossing pass from Matt Schwartz (Wynnewood, Pa.) at the 12:51 mark.

Brad Weinberg (Marcellus, N.Y.) had a chance to extend the Statesmen's lead minutes later, but his shot was stopped on a diving save by Cal Mintz (Westport, Conn.).
Scott Cluff (Kingston, Mass.) had a chance for the equalizer early in the second half, but Hobart goalie Pete Van Dellon (Webster, N.Y.) stopped his header at the corner of the net.

Later in the game Dan Riso (Red Hook, N.Y.) broke in alone, but his attempt was stopped by Mintz.  Mintz had six saves for the Owls.  Van Dellon stopped four shots for Hobart.

"I thought we had a better effort today," said KSC Coach Ron Butcher.  "We had some chances before they scored, but we just didn't have enough players who came with their 'A' game today.  It's back to the drawing board. I guess I expected more from this team than I got."

"Any time you lose two games in your own tournament and have to give a way all the hardware you get upset."
KSC will look for its first win of the season on Wednesday when it hosts Springfield College (7 p.m.).
