W. Soccer: Owls Blank WNEC 6-0

KEENE, N.H. 9/5/07 - Keene State College erupted for three goals in a span of four minutes in the second half on the way to posting a 6-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Western New England College at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
 

The Owls, playing their home season opener, improve to 2-1.  WNEC goes to 2-1.
 

Michelle Boland (Worcester, Mass.) and Molly Brunelle (Walpole, N.H.) had a goal and an assist for the Owls, who got goals from six different players.
 

"It was our first home game so we were pumped to play," said Brunelle.
 

"We have a lot of new faces out there that haven't played together, so it's going to take a little while to gel," said KSC Coach Denise Lyons. "Today it came together for us." 


The Owls took a 1-0 lead at the 11:28 mark when Sasha Daniels (Hillsboro, N.H.) broke in alone and beat WNEC goalie Jessica Covino (Bristol, Conn.).  Brunelle set up the goal with a lead pass.
 

WNEC's best opportunity to score came later in the half when Heather Mortell's (Webster, Mass.) shot from the right side just missed the far post.
 

Renee Halsey (Francestown) had a chance to extend the owls' lead, but her shot with 5:30 to play in the half hit off the crossbar.
 

The Owls scored three goals in a span of four minutes to take a 4-0 lead in the second half.  Michelle Boland (Worcester, Mass.) began the flurry by finishing off a cross ball by Kathleen Keniston (Minneapolis, Minn.) at the 55;29 mark.   After Keniston was taken down in the box. Kendra Spencer (Petoskey, Mich.) scored on a penalty kick.  A minute late. Ally Beadle (East Hartford, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal from 18-yards out to make it a 4-0 game.
 

Halsey scored her first goal of the season later in the half as KSC went up 5-0. Brunelle completed the scoring late in the game.
 

Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) had four saves before giving way to freshman Ashley Molloy (Manchester, N.H.) who had one save.
 

Jessica Cvino (Bristol, Conn.) had 11 saves for the Golden Bears.
 

The Owls have won all nine meetings between the two teams in the series which began in 1999.

Keene State hosts Framingham State on Saturday (1 p.m.).
