KEENE, N.H. 9/8/07 - Freshmen accounted for all the scoring in
Keene State College 'a 3-0 non-conference women's soccer victory
over Framingham State in Keene on Saturday. Kate Bradford
(Lebanon, N.H.) netted two goals and Nora Mahoney (Belchertown,
Mass.) finished with a goal in the game. It was the first
collegiate goals for both players.
KSC improves to 3-1. FSC goes to 1-1.
Framingham State freshman goalie Tara Cavalieri (Attleboro,
Mass.) kept the Owls off the board in the early going with several
saves, including a diving stop on a close-range shot by Michelle
Boland (Worcester, Mass.)
KSC finally broke through at the 26:46 mark when Nora Mahoney
(Belchertown, Mass.) took a lead pass from Renee Halsey
(Francestown, N.H.) and slid the ball by the Ram
goalie. It was Mahoney's first college goal.
KSC, which controlled play throughout the game, had numerous
chances to extends its lead .
Cavalieri kept one goal game with several key stops early in the
second half, including shots by Kathleen Keniston (Minneapolis,
Minn.) and Halsey.
Later in the half, Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) walked in
along, but her shot went just wide of the far post. Bradford got
the Owls an insurance goal with 15 minutes to play when she
finished a crossing ball from Halsey.
"It was defiantly freshmen jitters," said Bradford about her
earlier missed attempts. "Getting that first goal is a really
big relief. I'm just glad it's over with."
The Owls out-shot the Rams 29-7.
Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, Mass.) had four saves to pick up her
first college shutout. Cavalieri stopped 11 shots for
FSC.
Keene State is back at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday for a game
against Williams College (1 p.m.).
