NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA 10/18/08 -Senior forward
Alex Horne (Harvard, Mass.) headed in a corner
kick in the seventh minute as the Keene State men's soccer team
held on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 1-0 and
earn its first Little East Conference victory of the season on
Saturday.
Horne headed in a corner kick by junior back Nathan
Gaughan (Harwinton, Conn.) to stake the Owls to a 1-0
lead. The defenses controlled the remainder of the game. It was the
second straight game-winner for Horne who leads KSC with eight
goals.
"It was a big first LEC win for us," said KSC Coach Ron
Butcher. "Hopefully we can keep it going."
Keene State improved to 5-7-3 and 1-3-1 with the victory while
UMD dropped to 7-7 and 2-3 in the Little East Conference.
The Corsairs outshot the Owls, 10-8. Freshman goalkeeper Anel
Brkic (Milton, MA/Milton HS) and KSC goalkeeper Peter
Kersker (Beverly, Mass.)each made three saves. It was
Kersker's second shutout of the season.
Keene State will visit Western New England Sunday.
