LUDLOW, Mass. - The Keene State men's soccer
team saw its modest two game wining streak come to an end with a
3-0 shut loss to Western New England College in a
non-conference match played at Lusitano Stadium.
The Western New England College men's soccer team ran its
unbeaten streak to 15 with the victory. The Golden Bears,
ranked 14th nationally and second in the region, improved their
record to 11-1-4. The Owls fall to 5-8-3.
Freshman midfielder Austin Santolini (Agawam, MA) earned the
game-winner with his first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute.
Junior midfielder David Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, MA) had the
assist.
Senior forward Dale Totman (Conway, MA) upped the margin to 2-0
with his team high ninth goal of the season in the 49th minute with
an assist from junior midfielder Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA).
Martins then closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal (his
fifth of the year) in the 83rd minute.
Junior goalkeeper Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) finished with four
saves in picking up his second shutout of the fall.
Keene State's best opportunity to score came in the 67th minute
when junior freshman midfielder Alex
Larson (Williamsport, PA) fired a shot that skipped off
the top of the crossbar.
"It was another disappointing loss for the Owls who were shutout
for the seventh time this season. "Alex Horne was
double-teamed and taken out of the game," said KSC Coach
Ron Butcher. "He continued to work hard and
get the ball to other people."
Junior keeper Peter Kersker (Ipswich, MA)
compiled six saves.
Western New England College held a 19-7 advantage in shots and
four to one edge in corner kicks.
Keene State is off until next Saturday when its hosts
UMass-Boston.
