BOSTON, MA - Senior
midfielder Michelle Boland (Worcester, MA) netted
a pair of goals to lead the Keene State College women's soccer team
over host University of Massachusetts Boston 4-1 today in a Little
East Conference match at the Clark Athletic Center Field. The
Beacons fall to 6-10-1 overall and 2-3-1 in LEC play, while the
Owls improve to 13-5-0 and 5-1-0.
Boland put Keene State on the board when she dribbled in on the
left side of the box and scored with a low shot inside the near
post at the 15:10 mark of the first half for a 1-0 edge. The
Owls took a 2-0 margin on an own goal that was misdirected by a UMB
defender at 22:32 of the first half and freshman midfielder
Shannon Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) later
increased the Keene State advantage on a penalty kick that found
the back of the net on the left side for her third goal of the
campaign with 2:26 left in the first half for a 3-0 lead.
The Beacons cut the deficit to 3-1 just 1:56 into the
second half when freshman forward Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, MA)
crossed to junior midfielder Kristi Morales (San Francisco, CA) at
the top of the 18-yard marker, where she trapped the ball and sent
a shot into the back of the net on the right side for her sixth
score of the year. The assist was the first in Mulry's career
and gives her a team-leading 25 points on the season.
Boland capped the scoring with her 10th goal of the season when
sophomore midfielder Katelin Waltz (Southington,
CT) took a shot that hit the post and Boland collected the rebound
and put it in the net at 75:02 of the second half to make it 4-1 in
favor of the Owls.
UMass Boston junior keeper Courtney Haroules (Littleton, MA)
stopped 10 shots for UMass Boston, while junior goalie
Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, MA) earned the victory
with seven saves for Keene State.
The Beacons will be in action again when they travel to
Framingham, MA on Tuesday, October 28 to take on Framingham State
College at 3:00 p.m., while the Owls host Bridgewater State College
on October 29 at 6:30 p.m.
