SALEM, MASS.10/8/08 - The Keene State men's soccer team
dropped a 1-0 non-conference game to Salem State, ranked No. 4 in
New England, on Wednesday night at Alumni Field.
SSC (9-0-1) received the match-winning goal from freshman
forward Matt Figueiredo who was set up by freshman midfielder
Carlos De Oliviera with 8:32 left in the second half. Figueiredo,
who led the Vikings with three shots and recorded his team-leading
eighth goal, one-timed De Oliviera's pass from the right wing into
the near upper right corner from 20 yards out.
KSC (3-6-3) and the Vikings played to a scoreless first half as
most of the play was confined to the center of the field. SSC
senior goalkeeper Pawel Brzykcy, who posted his fifth shutout of
the season, finished with four saves while Keene goalkeeper
Peter Kersker (Beverly, Mass.) stopped four shots.
The Vikings held a 16-8 advantage in shots, including an 11-5
margin in the second half. Each team attempted six corner kicks for
the match.
Keene State host R.I. College in a LEC game on Saturday (1
p.m.).
